Show Racists the Red Card

Bill with SRTRC's Billy Singh and ex player and 'Red Card' supporter Derek Ferguson
I am, once again, backing efforts to stamp out racism in football, and wider Scottish society.
Now in its fifth year, Show Racism the Red Card’s ‘Fortnight of Action’ sees a number of high profile events, aimed at tackling racism and celebrating cultural diversity, take place at football matches across Scotland. Clubs from all levels of the game will be participating in a variety of activities including displaying SRTRC stadium billboards, players wearing special ‘Red Card’ t-shirts, PA announcements and educational workshops.
Whilst progress has been made players are still being racially abused both on and off the pitch. Government statistics indicate that there are on average 14 recorded racist incidents a day. The Commission for Racial Equality estimates the true number to be five times this figure.
I’ve lodged a motion in parliament backing the fortnight of action and hope MSPs from all parties support it.
We must all work together to ensure that the mindless minority who engage in racist practices realise their behaviour is not acceptable in football or in wider society.
