I’ve been using the parliamentary recess to campaign on a number of issues which have arisen with bus services in my constituency.

In Drumchapel I have received several complaints from residents, many of whom are senior citizens residing in nearby sheltered accommodation, about the number of buses using the Kinfauns Drive area for parking.

There have been reports that as many as 5 buses are being parked at one time along the side of the road, across from the Kinfauns Centre, causing serious problems for other drivers and pedestrians.

This queue of buses –many of which are double deckers – is causing serious problems for people crossing the road at this busy part of Kinfauns Drive.  Many elderly people have indicated to me that they are scared to cross the road and this cannot be allowed to continue. People need to be able to see oncoming traffic.

It also creates a problem for cars having to negotiate their way around buses in an area which has seen a number of serious accidents in recent weeks.

I have now written to First Bus demanding answers and will also be raising these matters with SPT and Strathclyde Police to ensure that enforcement action is taken.

In addition, along with my colleague Ann McKechin MP, I have been out knocking doors in Kelvindale to campaign against First Bus’ decision to cut the frequency of the No 11 service (which serves both the Kelvindale and Knightswood areas) during the day, and to withdraw it altogether after 7pm.

This proposed cut will have a detrimental effect on my constituents’ quality of life – it is wholly unacceptable,

I have already written to the Chief Executive of First Bus to call for this decision to be overturned.
